The NAB Rewards range of credit cards offers uncapped points and the convenience and acceptance of Visa, making it easy for NAB cardholders to build up a meaningful volume of points.

Those points can be transferred to eligible airlines based in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. They can also be converted into rewards with a major Aussie grocery program for savings on everyday purchases, or migrated across to a global hotel partner.

Here’s a look at NAB’s credit card lineup for individuals seeking flexible points.

NAB Rewards credit cards

NAB Rewards Platinum comes in two ‘flavours’. The straightforward option is as the title says – the NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card. This earns flexible points that can be converted to Virgin Australia Velocity and a host of other partners. Alternatively, there’s the ‘NAB Rewards Platinum Card with Velocity‘. This is essentially the same card, but where the NAB Rewards points earned are automatically converted to Velocity every month. (The conversion rate to Velocity is 2:1, in either case).

Here’s what that looks like in practical terms.

  • Earn 1 NAB Rewards Point (or 0.5 Velocity Points) per $1 spent on eligible everyday transactions, uncapped.
  • Collect 1.5 NAB Rewards Points (or 0.75 Velocity Points) per $1 spent at eligible grocery stores, uncapped.
  • Receive 2 Nab Rewards Points (or 1 Velocity Point) per $1 spent at Webjet, uncapped.

NAB Rewards Platinum also has a more achievable minimum credit limit of $6,000. There’s no fee for an additional cardholder – potentially allowing your family to maximise points on household spends. For instance, both members of the household could use the card to pay bills, by groceries – even pay rent, to keep racking up the points.

The bank also has a Rewards Signature Credit Card, with a higher earn rate, but a higher overall standard card fee. On that card, you could earn 1.5 NAB Rewards Points (or 0.75 Velocity Points) per $1 spent up to $15,000 per calendar month. After that, earning continues at 0.5 NAB Rewards Points (0.25 Velocity Points) per $1. On this card, there’s a monthly fee of $35 (potentially $420 per year in total), although the fee is waived when spending $5,000 or more per statement period.

Transfer options and other cardholder benefits with NAB

Once you’ve earned points in NAB Rewards, you can transfer them onwards at the following rates. That’s unless you choose the Velocity card variant. In that scenario, your points will convert automatically to Velocity every month.

Beyond points, the bank’s Platinum and Signature Rewards cards offer a few extra perks. For instance, up to 12 months of extended warranty cover on eligible appliances purchased with the card. There’s also 90 days of purchase protection on eligible items, if stolen, accidentally damaged or permanently lost.

One final tip: take the opportunity earn points at as many places as possible. Every eligible transaction can add valuable points to your balance. The larger the payment, the greater the points earned. Using a points-earning card to pay regular bills via direct debit can be an easy way to set, forget, and be rewarded. Add you card to virtual wallets on mobiles and smartwatches to always be ready – even if you leave your real wallet at home.
