Singapore Airlines to open all-new Melbourne SilverKris Lounge
The carrier’s latest Australian lounge will finally break loose of the dungeons.

What we'll be covering
Good news for Singapore Airlines’ Melbourne passengers – a brand-new SilverKris Lounge is coming. While the juiciest details are still under wraps, we now know that the airline is targeting a late 2026 or early 2027 opening.
Timothy Chua, Vice President of Lounge Development and Inflight Operations, briefly mentioned the news during the launch of Singapore Airlines’ new First Class Lounge in Changi Terminal 2. After the event, I spoke to Mr Chua to find out more.

Why Melbourne, and why now?
Singapore Airlines has 10 overseas SilverKris lounges. Most have been refurbished to the current ‘Home Away From Home’ concept, but two haven’t – Taipei and Melbourne. Of those two, Melbourne is arguably in bigger need of an overhaul, with five daily flights and a sub-optimal location in the ‘dungeon’ of Melbourne Airport.
Mr Chua is acutely aware of how Melbourne is the ‘ugly duckling’ of the SilverKris network. “We want to thank our customers for being loyal with us and staying with us for so long in the current lounge,” he quipped.
“The lounge will be a huge step up from where it is today. It’ll be 30% larger and a totally brand-new build.”

It’s safe to assume that the new lounge will continue to feature a separate First Class section, given that two of the five daily flights are currently operated by Boeing 777-300ERs with First Class.
Where could the new Melbourne SilverKris lounge be?
Mr Chua wouldn’t be drawn on the new lounge’s location, but we do have some clues. Melbourne Airport’s Chief of Aviation, Jim Parashos, previously spoke to Point Hacks about the overhaul of the airport’s basement lounge precinct.
“The most significant infrastructure – and of course, probably the most sought after from our airline customers – is an expansion of that central satellite area. (This) will provide more seating and circulation to the new gates.”
“But the idea is that the level above departures will become the home of an expanded gate lounge area. I think it’s fair to say all our (existing) airline customers would like to move up there over time.”

“We are also exploring some shorter-term opportunities where they do exist. They’re very limited, but we are hoping by the end of the year to … identify one or two additional lounge spaces, until the terminal is fully expanded,” Mr Parashos explained.
It’s possible that Singapore Airlines could nab one of those ‘additional lounge spaces’, wherever that may be.
Summing up
We can expect the new Melbourne SilverKris Lounge to feature the current styling of Singapore Airlines’ latest lounges, including the SilverKris First Class Lounge in Changi Terminal 2 and the Perth SilverKris Lounge.
Both lounges feature a tended bar, live cooking stations, and plenty of different zones to work, relax, or refresh. It’ll be a considerable upgrade for passengers departing from Melbourne.
“We are in the midst of planning, and the build will start soon,” Mr Chua confirmed.
